What we do:
The Tehama County Animal Care Center is owned by Tehama County and operated by the Department of Agriculture, Division of Animal Services.
The Animal Care Center is responsible for animal sheltering services for the City of Red Bluff, the City of Corning, the City of Tehama, and the unincorporated areas of Tehama County. The Animal Care Center houses and cares for all stray dogs found within Tehama County, along with stray horses, farm animals, and pocket pets.
The Animal Care Center has limited space for receiving and holding cats. Due to the limited holding space, appointments are required for all requested impoundments of cats. Private citizens who find stray cats are encouraged to leave them alone unless they are sick or injured. A cat's owner is more likely to find their cat if the cat is not brought to a shelter. Some studies show that cats reported lost are thirteen times more likely to return home on their own or with the help of a neighbor than if they are brought to shelter!
Surrendering pets are only occasionally accepted on a case by case basis. The Animal Care Center maintains waiting lists for dogs and cats needing to be surrendered. Please call the Animal Care Center at (530) 527-3439 to request to be added to the waiting list.
If you have lost a pet, we encourage you to come in person to the Animal Care Center to look for your missing pet and file a lost pet report. You may also make a lost pet report through this website.
