Shelter Statistics

The statistics below show the data for dogs and cats entering and leaving the Tehama County Animal Care Center. It is important to note we are not a “no-kill” shelter. We are an open, municipal shelter and are required to accept any stray dog that is found within Tehama or Glenn Counties. Although not required to accept stray cats, we work off a waiting list to take in as many cats as our shelter can handle.

Due to wonderful community support, rescue groups, shelter partners, fosters and volunteers, we have made great strides in the past several years, achieving the highest save rates in our shelter’s history. Although this progress is fantastic, we understand that this is not perfection. We strive everyday to be a better shelter and continue to improve our practices as the only animal shelter in Tehama and Glenn Counties.

Current Year Statistics

Monthly Disposition Reports below show the number of each type of outcome for dogs and cats, along with the overall save rate.

Our save rate is calculated by the number of live outcomes divided by the number of total outcomes. We strive to provide every animal in our care the time and support they need to find a loving home. However, because we take in some very vulnerable and sick animals—including newborn orphaned animals—some of the animals in our care do pass away or are humanely euthanized to end incurable suffering.
