Universal Waste refers to toxic materials or products found in most homes and businesses. The items contain insufficient toxic material to be hazardous in ordinary use, but when concentrated in large amounts in a small location, such as a landfill, the toxins could pose a threat to groundwater or to the surrounding community. For this reason Universal Wastes are no longer disposable in landfills and must be recycled or disposed as hazardous waste. |
